Mountain climbing or the sport of climbing mountains is simply one of those wild outdoor opportunities available to people who like to reach greater heights, embracing clouds and finding true freedom. Mountain climbing is about daring to take the challenge and perseverance, about travelling into the unknown, exploring mountain land forest or terrain, slopes and sometimes enduring pain, dizziness and even tiredness. But once you have reached the peak, there is nothing that can compare to that feeling of awe and satisfaction! If you are a climber, you definitely know this!
If there is one place that I can recommend, it is Mount Kinabalu. Mount Kinabalu is one of those places that allows a mountain climber to experience one of the greatest test of strength and perseverance in South East Asia. You can now climb Mount Kinabalu with through its various climbing trails available or you can explore and find your trail up like a few adventurous climbers did in the news lately. The two most famous trail is the Mesilau Trail and the Summit Trail where most mount kinabalu packages advertises.

Today, you can climb with ease and assurance of reaching its peak with the assistance of mountain guides and porters where they can guide you up the trail to reach Mount Kinabalu’s Low’s Peak in less than 2 days.

However, most climbers take a night’s rest at Laban Rata resthouse and other resthouses along the way before they make that final climb to the peak. It is advisable that amateur or casual climbers rest a night in order to avoid nausea and climbing sickness which happens if you attempt to climb non-stop or reaching the peak too quickly.

Other than that, choosing an experienced tour guide or mountain guide can make a difference to your climb. Big tour companies may not necessary offer the best mountain guides, so it is important to choose your climbing package wisely. I would say look for a tour guide with good testimonials and one that is choosen and preferred by the locals.

It can be bitterly cold on the plateau, especially during rain or strong wind. What could be useful is a warm sweater or rainjacket, while a woolly hat or cap, warm pullover and winter gloves can come as good protection to the cold.

Food wise - don’t carry too much as there is food at the resthouse, but carry some snacks and high energy food such as chocolates, energy bars, rainsins, nuts or muesli bars.
If you are feeling young, healthy and ready for an adventure, climbing mount kinabalu is definitely one of the activities that can exciting at least once in a lifetime. Besides the mountain, Kinabalu Park offers a great view of the natural environment surrounding Mt Kinabalu.

Besides that you trip to Mount Kinabalu can be come in a 3 days 2 nights package for a more comfortable and relaxing trip, where the tour guide can bring you sightseeing to nearby attractions at Kinabalu Park such as the Cow Farm, Upside Down House and as exotic and rejuvenating as the Poring Hot Spring.
